Hometown Heroes: Hilton Waikoloa Village donates over $ 18,000 to Special Olympics

Editor’s Note: Every Wednesday, West Hawaii Today posts a story about individuals, groups or organizations who have helped improve the lives of others in our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hilton Waikoloa Village and its Blue Energy committee recently donated over $ 18,000 to support Special Olympics athletes on the Big Island.

“The generosity of the Hilton Waikoloa Village and the Blue Energy Committee shows how compassionate and kind the staff and company are. This donation means the world to us and all athletes with Special Olympics will be able to sustain their training and competition, ”said Denise Lindsey, Area Manager Special Olympics West Hawaii.

Lindsey and East Hawaii Regional Director JaNeal Stevens said the donation will ensure the organization can continue to provide high-quality athletic and fitness opportunities to developing people and

“Due to the pandemic, nonprofits have been hit extremely hard and it was not safe to hold most of our fundraisers,” Stevens said. “Many of our corporate sponsors find it difficult to stay afloat and have little to give to charity. This donation will allow us to continue our mission.
