Oswestry Recreation Center rated ‘Excellent’ after review

A nationally recognized quality sports and recreation program rated the Oswestry Recreation Center as “Excellent” following a two-day evaluation.

Quest is an independent, accredited and industry-recognized tool that encourages continuous improvement, designed primarily for the management of recreation facilities and recreation developments, and sets industry standards and best practices, providing a means to compare the facilities.

The industry standard developed by the UK Sports Council, Quest Prime, recognizes that the center has excellent measures and procedures in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Quest Prime evaluation included an unannounced mystery visit and a full-day evaluation performed by an industry professional.

Quest evaluators looked at a range of factors, including the overall management of the pandemic and the approach to engaging with customers who do not use the facilities.

The Shropshire Community Leisure Trust operates the Oswestry Leisure Center on behalf of the Shropshire Council.

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council Cabinet Member for Communities, Places, Tourism and Transport, said:

“We are delighted that the Oswestry Recreation Center has received an ‘Excellent’ rating. I would like to thank and congratulate all those who helped make it such a success, with a special mention to the staff of the center who managed and operated the center so effectively coming out of the various blockages during the pandemic. “

Peter Davis, Shropshire Council Account Manager, said:

“The entire Oswestry team is to be commended for their hard work, commitment and diligence. The assessment was undertaken when the center was focused on recovering many parts of the business, and this achievement demonstrates the true quality and strength of the center. I would also like to thank the staff teams of the four other establishments that the trust manages on behalf of the board; they all did a great job under difficult circumstances.

Shropshire Community Leisure Trust is closely supported by its managing agent Serco Leisure, and this achievement follows the announcement that Serco Leisure was named Outstanding Organization at the UKactive Awards in August, the most prestigious event of its kind in the calendar of health and fitness recognizing excellence across the industry.

Chris Stanbrook, contract manager for Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, said:

“I am very proud of the Oswestry team for the work they all did to achieve this accreditation. The operating environment for all recreation facilities is currently challenging, making this high rating even more commendable. “

The Shropshire Community Leisure Trust operates the Whitchurch Swimming Center, Market Drayton Swimming Center, Oswestry Leisure Center, Shrewsbury Sports Village and Quarry Swimming & Fitness Center on behalf of the Shropshire Council.
